County Basketball 2019-2020

Welcome to County Basketball

BAYS Basketball is dedicated to teaching fundamental aspects of the game of basketball. Our Mission is to develop the skills of youth players through instruction to build the necessary skills to succeed. We promote team play while building self-confidence. We offer a competitive county basketball program through our organization in which all teams compete in the Anne Arundel County Basketball League.

Age: 8-15 (Players age is determinded by the players age on Sept 1 of the current year). We plan to have a team at all ages: 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U and 13U. If we have enough talented players we will have multiple teams at certain age groups.

If we have intetest we will also have high school level teams. We generally have one to two teams at this level. High school level teams generally dont have tryouts and we work with the coaches to have friends play together. High School level games are played on Sunday's.

Tryouts and Practices:

Tryouts for our County Basketball teams are listed below. Every age group has one tryout on a weekend day and one tryout on a weeknight. You only have to attend one of the two. Our goal is to get one hour of evaluation time for each tryout. The additional time is for initial administrative check-in and time at the back end for questions from parents.
The weekday times are a little tougher than the weekend as we don't have as much gym time. We're scheduling a little overlap between the two times - the overlap time is the admin check-in time so please do not take the court until it is time for your age group tryouts to start.
There is no tryout for the 14 and up Teams.

As a reminder, please sign up prior to tryouts. If your son or daughter does not make a county team, they will be placed in the community league and you will get a refund for the difference in registration. I've also received a few questions on the number of county teams. BAYS policy has been, and will continue to be, that we will add as many county teams as we have players who we feel are ready for that level of competition and have someone willing to take on the coaching duties. So, just because we only had 1 team in the age group last year doesn't mean it will only be 1 this year.

Our goal is to have Teams formed, and parents notified, by Sunday 10/20. Teams will have two practices a week. Optional weekend time will be available starting in December for those coaches that wish to have an extra practice. Practices will be held at one of the schools located on the Broadneck Peninsula.

Season: (October-February) Games will start in early December and go through the end of February/early March.

Uniform: All Players will be given a reversable uniforms to keep.

Playing Time: 8U and 9U - all players at all levels, A-C, are to play at minimum 50% of the game. This is also the case for all C level leagues regardless of age. A and B leagues, ages 10U and up are expected to play at minimum 25%.

Open Gyms: In the fall we offer free basketball clinics for those players who want to work on their skills such as shooting, dribbling, passing, screening, and defensive footwork. Please check the calendar to see the dates and times these clinics will be offered.

Registration: $165
